"Planting native species helps preserve the park's ecosystem, according to Dana Gumb, Bayside resident of 30 years and the Vice President and Chair of Conservation Committee for FCJGP, which is why the group will plant black-eyed Susans, little bluestems and dogwood trees — which are all native to the area."
"There's a lot we don't know about invasive species," said Dana Gumb, Bayside resident of 30 years and the Vice President and Chair of Conservation Committee for Friends of Crocheron & John Golden Park (FCJGP), the local preservation group that's organizing this weekend's event. "But what we do know is that if not kept in track they'll completely dominate an environment, so you have to cut them back and then put something in their place."
