Forest bathing, a blend of fitness and mindfulness, began in Japan in the 1980s as shinrin-yoku, meaning "forest bathing" or "taking in the forest atmosphere." It was created to help people disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. The practice quickly became popular, and by the 1990s, researchers confirmed its health benefits.Though Japan popularized shinrin-yoku, many cultures have long understood that spending time in nature is good for health.
