What is Yoga?

Yoga comes from a Sanskrit word which translates to ‘Concentration on attaining the changes desired in our lives’. Yoga looks to bring our mind, body, and spirit into harmony. Our modern-day view of yoga guides us on one part of the study of Yoga.

The Philosophy of Yoga focuses on 8 limbs:

  1. Yamas (Ethical & Moral Ideal)
  2. Niyamas (Spiritual & Self-discipline Ideals)
  3. Asana (Physical Practices)
  4. Pranayama (Breath work – our Life Force)
  5. Pratyahara (Withdrawal of senses / Ignoring Distractions)
  6. Dharana (Concentration / Focused Thoughts)
  7. Dhyana (Meditation)
  8. Samadhi (Liberation / Union with a Divine)

Yoga in Crocheron Park focuses on the 3rd limb of Asana. Each class is designed to be accessible by most beginners with modifications and more challenging poses offered to those who choose to pursue them. The classes do not require any previous experience or props (though you are always welcome to bring any aids that may help you).
